Research indicates that pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) or razor bumps, as we know it, affects more than 60 percent of African American men (AAM). The harsh reality is that this condition causes pain and discomfort. It also contributes to a very serious lack of confidence in appearance for men that suffer with it. It can also lead to awkwardness with men interacting and relating to women in general.
Gillette Fusion's MVP Prime Time 5-city tour highlights the Gillette Fusion razor by tapping into the lifestyle of key AAM consumers at local barbershops in the various markets. The tour began in Chicago (Oct 26-28), New York (Nov 2-4), Philadelphia (Nov 16-18), Washington DC (Nov 30- Dec 2), and is concluding in Atlanta (Dec 7-9). Each stop includes "The Men of Style Awards" - a recognition event honoring local barbers and style icons who embrace Gillette's motto "The Best a Man Can Get" as well as an in- barbershop emersion event including complimentary shaves, massages, and gifts.
"Barbers have an important role in helping African American men achieve a well groomed appearance", states Natalie Wu, Gillette Fusion Associate Brand Manager. African American barbershops are an ideal environment for Gillette to share its research findings and provide expert advice on reducing razor bumps, as well as, provide an opportunity for African American men to experience the benefits of Gillette Fusion technology." As the leader in shaving, with more than 7 out of 10 guys throughout the world starting their days with a Gillette shave, Gillette felt a responsibility to understand the science of razor bumps more deeply and to provide a potential solution for guys who are suffering from the condition. "We take our responsibility at Gillette seriously," said Ms. Wu. "To do this, we partnered with Dr. Amy McMichael, Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and an expert in the area of hair and scalp disorders; specifically, skin disease of deeply pigmented skin. When it comes to razor bumps, she's the foremost knowledge-holder in the world of dermatology, so it was right for Gillette to work with her to understand the role of shaving in the context of this disease. That's why we are doing a 5 city tour focused on getting the message out regarding PFB and what we learned."
Attendees can also register to win 2 tickets to NFL Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, FL., on February 7. Gillette is an Official Locker Room Product of the NFL. The Gillette Fusion MVP Prime Time Tour is being managed by Rolling Out a Steed Media Group Company. Go to www.gillette.rollingout.com for more information.
